AMD has released its long awaited APU refresh. The latest Phones APUs come with up to date technologies and architecture. AMD has once again showcased its capabilities of providing top notch powerful CPUs while being efficient.
AMD takes the fight to Intel once again with its latest release. The new CPUs come with integrated GPUs that have shown its capabilities in gaming as well as multitasking. AMD has yet again set a precedent with its iGPU utilizing the RDNA 3 architecture. The new Radeon 780M and 760M provide better support and features with greater hardware specs. The new Hyper-RX suite allows the GPUs to utilize Radeon SUper Resolution upscaling and AMD Fluid MOtion Frames generation. With the cost keeping in mind this new APUs are sure to outperform some of the other budgeted PCs out on the market.
Ryzen 8000G Series
Ryzen has released a total of 4 lineups, one from Ryzen 7, two from Ryzen 5 and one from Ryzen 3. As a result they have split the top line ups from bottom lineups as top lineups use Zen 4 while the bottom of the lineups use a mixture of Zen 4 and slower Zen 4c.
The new processor has Zen 4 architecture that utilizes TSMC 4nm process. They also support DDR5 memories now as the socket has been updated to AM5 from AM4. The whole lineup comes with overclocking capabilities as they come unlocked from the box.
Ryzen 7 8700G
The Ryzen 7 8700G is the top of the lineup offering 8 cores and a whopping 16 threads. The zen 4 architecture allows the cpu to perform better while consuming less power with a base clock of 4.2 GHz while also having a boost frequency of 5.1 GHz. It comes with 24 MB L3 cache which helps it run faster than any other CPUs on a similar tier. As an integrated GPU it possesses Radeon 780M which has 12 CU running at 2900 MHz, packing a huge punch for running games at 1080p. The Processor only has a TDP of 65 W and max power of 88 W.
Ryzen 5 8600G
It’s the top second on the list while possessing similar architecture as 8700G. It has 6 cores and 12 threads while having 4.3 GHz base clock and boost clock of 5.0 GHz. For L3 cache it possesses 22 MB of memory. It has Radeon 760M with 8 CU running at 2800 MHz. Just like the previous one it also has a TDP of 65 W.
Ryzen 5 8500G
It is the bottom of the tier coming with mixed Zen 4 and Zen 4c, having 6 cores and 12 threads. Out of the 6 cores 2 are Zen 4 while rest 4 are slower Zen 4c running at 4.1 GHz with boost of 5.0 GHz having a global base of 3.5 GHz. As of the Zen 4c cores it has a base clock of 3.2 GHz and boost of 3.6 GHz. It has Radeon 740M with 4 CU running at 2800 MHz. Similar to 8600G it has 22 MB L3 cache with a TDP of 65 W.
Ryzen 3 8300G
This OEM only CPU comes with 4 cores and 8 threads with 1 Zen 4 cores and 3 4c cores, running at 4.0 GHz and boost of 4.9. It has only 12 MB L3 cache with Radeon 740M GPU having 4 CU. It also has a TDP of 65 W.
Pricing
- Ryzen 7 8700G costs $329
- Ryzen 5 8600G costs $229
- Ryzen 5 8500G costs $179
The ryzen 7 8700G has a Wraith Spire cooler in the box with the processor. Other two processors also come with their own cooler in the box as 8699G and 8500G has Wraith Stealth cooler in the box.
Shipping with NPUs
The 8000G APUs also come with NPUs. This Is the first time a company has released consumer CPUs with NPUs in them. It will enable it to work faster in AI work loads. The XDNA NPU are power efficient making it suitable for notebooks.
The Ryen 8000G series comes with 16 PCIe 4.0 lanes which is a downgrade from its previous release which had PCIe 5.0 with 24 lanes. It makes sense as these APUs aren’t meant to work with extra GPUs. Besides that it has two x4 NVMe connections for SSD.
